My Biography:
Dale Ricardo Shields, B.F.A., M.F.A. Ohio University
Most recently was the Vail Artist in Residence and Visiting Assistant Professor at Denison University, where he directed Fires in The Mirror. He also recently directed productions of Topdog/Underdog and Crowns. Most recently he performed with the Saint Paul Civic Symphony at The Saint Paul Landmark Center as the Narrator in Arron Copland's A Lincoln Portrait. He directed the youth production of Karamu Got Art! and Alive for the famed Karamu House Theatre. He also Production managed the Near West Side Theatre production of Anyone Can Whistle. He directed Driving Miss Daisy at the Weathervane Playhouse in Ohio with critical acclaim. He was the Assistant Director for Ossie Davis at the New Federal Theatre in New York City on a new play A Last Dance For Sybil. His extensive professional credits as a director, stage manager and actor (Broadway and Off Broadway) include work at The Joseph Papp Public Theatre (New York Shakespeare Festival) as an workshop leader for the Playwrighting in the schools programs for six seasons, The Actors Studio, The Actors Theatre of Louisville, Playwrights Horizon, The Weathervane Playhouse, The Ensemble Studio Theatre, The Cleveland Playhouse, The Beck Center, The Near West Side Theatre, The Dobama Theatre, The Hilberry Repertory Theatre, Karamu House, The Henry Street Settlement House, and The Negro Ensemble Company. He is a member of The Society of Stage Directors and Choreographers, his directing credits include: Man of La Mancha, Rumors, For Colored Girls Who Considered Suicide When the Rainbow is Enuf, The Night Thoreau Spent in Jail, Golden Boy, The Me Nobody Knows, Before It Hits Home, The Brownsville Raid, Of Mice and Men, A Streetcar Named Desire, Quartermaine's Terms, Laughter on the Twenty Third Floor and Driving Miss Daisy. As an actor (AEA-SAG-AFTRA-AGMA), he appeared in the New York revival of Any One Can Whistle, the Lincoln Center premiere of Lily, The Bill Cosby Show, Another World, Guiding Light, Saturday Night Live and commercials and film. He co-authored and directed In Time, an HIV/AIDS awareness play for teenagers. In Time has received grants to tour, from the City of New York and Cleveland. As a Professor, Shields has received two Outstanding Professor Awards and two Educational Program of the Year awards from The College of Wooster. He is also a member of the Actors Equity Association, Screen Actors Guild, American Federation of Television and Radio Artist, The American Guild of Musical Performers.
