Cecil earned awards while covering Major League Baseball’s New York Yankees, college football, tennis, boxing, soccer and track and field for Gannett-Westchester Newspapers, earning statewide and corporate awards. He worked as an assistant projects editor at Major League Baseball. He covered the National Hockey League’s Carolina Hurricanes for The News & Observer in Raleigh, and the New York Rangers and New York Islanders for Newsday. He served as a correspondent to The Hockey News and Sporting News. He covered the National Basketball Association’s Indiana Pacers for The Indianapolis Star. He covered St. John’s University and Big East Conference basketball for the New York Post. At Urban Box Office Network, he served as the managing editor of Web sites devoted to Venus Williams, Serena Williams and Marion Jones. Cecil has covered such major events as the World Series, American League Division Series, American League Championship Series, Stanley Cup Finals, NBA Finals, NCAA men’s basketball championships, NCAA Division I football national championship game, U.S. Open tennis championships, All Star Games in baseball and hockey, New York City Marathon, the Millrose Games and the 1996 Olympic Games.
