NDRA is currently seeking a Director, Grants Program Management (GPM). The Director is charged with enabling and supporting the University of Notre Dame's world-class and fully compliant research, scholarship and creative endeavors by leading GPM, the University's post award research administration and financial projection function, with established goals and well-tuned operations. The Director will integrate the University's GPM activities across and within the research administration lifecycle, creating a seamless experience for those working within the University's research enterprise, especially faculty and staff.
The Director will have direct budgeting of over 800 currently active grant awards that total over $500M in active grant budgets. He/She is expected to communicate and interpret complex award information (financial, legal and regulatory) to faculty and staff at account establishment and throughout project lifecycle. The Director will oversee provision of financial grant projections for researcher and program, and ensure compliance with applicable federal and University requirements. Additionally, he/she will manage post award programmatic changes such as no-cost extensions, budget revisions, and changes in scope and assist faculty by monitoring required reporting on grants.
Reporting to the AVP for Research, the Director will be responsible for leading the Grants Program Management team consisting of 9 exempt professionals.

Minimum Qualifications:
Masters degree and at least 7+ years of increasing responsibility in research administration experience or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
Professional background
  • Explicit mastery of sponsored program terms and conditions, financial management, financial projections and related processes and systems.
  • Thorough understanding of current public policy issues in research arena.
  • Applied knowledge of all aspects of research administration lifecycle and processes.
  • Cooperative, responsible and effective engagement with private and public sponsoring agencies and funding entities.
  • Well-regarded representation of University within national research organizations (e.g., COGR.)
Professional competencies
  • Proven record of success in serving faculty and leading operations in a complex higher education, research institute, or comparable environment.
  • Collegial relationships skills and customer service mindset applied to diverse set of faculty, program staff, other administrative units and academic leadership.
  • Strong evidence of success as leader with superb communication and project management skills.
  • Superior desire and ability to mentor and inspire staff.
  • Calm, efficient and confident manner when working with pressure of internal and external deadlines.
  • Abundant curiosity fulfilled through dedication to continuous, active learning.
  • Sound application of organization, prioritization and time management skills to structure and drive work.
  • Extensive skill and competency with internal and external technology systems used in research administration.


Preferred Qualifications:
Higher education experience preferred.
